Δυσάρεστα νέα για όσους εμβολιάστηκαν με Pfizer

Πέντε μήνες έζησε την απόλυτη ελευθερία από την πανδημία το Ισραήλ και σήμερα αντιμετωπίζει ένα νέο κύμα, που ίσως αναγκάσει τη χώρα να μπει ξανά σε lockdown. Ραγδαία μείωση της αποτελεσματικότας του εμβολίου της Pfizer

Τα κρούσματα έχουν φτάσει σε επίπεδα που η χώρα είχε να δει από τον Φεβρουάριο, παρότι το 80% του πληθυσμού έχει λάβει τις δύο δόσεις του εμβολίου των Pfizer/BioNTech.

Απάντηση στο γιατί συμβαίνει αυτό, γράφουν οι Financial Times, αρχίζει σιγά σιγά να σχηματίζεται από έρευνες που δείχνουν ότι η αποτελεσματικότητα του εμβολίου αυτού, που η χώρα χρησιμοποιεί σχεδόν αποκλειστικά, μειώνεται γρηγορότερα απ’ όσο αναμενόταν, αυξάνοντας έτσι τον κίνδυνο να μολυνθεί ένας εμβολιασμένος.

Στο Sheba Medical Center, το μεγαλύτερο νοσοκομείο της χώρας, ερευνητές αναγνώρισαν νωρίς αυτή την τάση. Μηνιαίες εξετάσεις αίματος στο προσωπικό, πολλοί εκ των οποίων εμβολιάστηκαν τον Δεκέμβριο, άρχισαν να δείχνουν μείωση των αντισωμάτων και σημαντική πτώση από τον Ιούνιο, δήλωσε ο Arnon Afek που ανήκει στην ομάδα.

Τα αντισώματα μπορεί να μειώνονται χωρίς αυτό να έχει αντίκτυπο στην αποτελεσματικότητα, αλλά περίπου την ίδια περίοδο στα νοσοκομεία άρχισε να καταγράφεται αύξηση στις περιπτώσεις που ηλικιωμένοι πλήρως εμβολιασμένοι πολίτες βρίσκονταν θετικοί και αναζητούσαν νοσηλεία.

«Προκάλεσε συναγερμό», δηλώνει ο Afek. «Περίπου στους έξι μήνες, συνειδητοποιήσαμε ότι τα επίπεδα αντισωμάτων στο προσωπικό μας μειώνονταν και σε όλο το Ισραήλ υπήρξε αύξηση των ασθενών. Και αυτό συνέβη εκ παραλλήλου με την εμφάνιση της Δέλτα».

Εως τον Αύγουστο, σύμφωνα με το υπουργείο Υγείας, οι μελέτες έδειξαν ότι η αποτελεσματικότητα για το εμβόλιο της Pfizer σε ό,τι αφορά τη μόλυνση μειώθηκε στο 39% και ακόμα και στο 16% για όσους είχαν λάβει τη δεύτερη δόση τον Ιανουάριο.

Ακόμα πιο ανησυχητικό, η αποτελεσματικότητα έναντι της σοβαρής νόσησης για τους ευάλωτους (ηλικίες άνω των 65 ετών), οι περισσότεροι εκ των οποίων εμβολιάσηκαν τον Ιανουάριο, υποχώρησε στο 55%.

Ειδικοί, τόσο στο Ισραήλ όσο και στο εξωτερικό, έχουν αμφισβητήσει την ακρίβεια αυτών των στοιχείων, τα οποία η κυβέρνηση δημοσιοποίησε σιωπηλά και χωρίς να ξεκαθαρίσει τη μεθοδολογία.

Άλλες διεθνείς μελέτες έχουν επίσης δείξει χαμηλότερη αποτελεσματικότητα του συγκεκριμένου εμβολίου κατά της μετάλλαξης Δέλτα, αλλά οι εκτιμήσεις αναφορικά με το πόσο μειώνεται είναι χαμηλότερες. Μελέτη του Πανεπιστημίου της Οξφόρδης έδειξε ότι η αποτελεσματικότητά του απέναντι στη συμπτωματική μόλυνση περιορίζεται στο μισό μετά από τέσσερις μήνες.
