Πέθανε ο Άκης Τσοχατζόπουλος

Ανακοπή καρδιάς υπέστη ο Άκης Τσοχατζόπουλος σε ηλικία 82 ετών, ο οποίος, παρά τις προσπάθειες των γιατρών, δεν κατάφερε να κρατηθεί στη ζωή. Ο πρώην υπουργός και ιστορικό στέλεχος του ΠΑΣΟΚ νοσηλευόταν σε ιδιωτικό θεραπευτήριο καθώς αντιμετώπιζε σοβαρά προβλήματα υγείας.

Υπήρξε για πολλά χρόνια βουλευτής και υπουργός του ΠΑΣΟΚ με συνεχείς παρουσίες σε κυβερνήσεις από το 1981 μέχρι και το 2004, ενώ το 1996 έθεσε υποψηφιότητα για τη θέση του πρωθυπουργού ύστερα από την παραίτηση του Ανδρέα Παπανδρέου.

Στις 11 Απριλίου 2012 συνελήφθη με την κατηγορία της νομιμοποίησης εσόδων από παράνομη δραστηριότητα και στις 7 Οκτωβρίου 2013 καταδικάστηκε σε ποινή κάθειρξης 20 ετών, η οποία μειώθηκε αργότερα σε 19 χρόνια. Επικαλούμενος προβλήματα υγείας αποφυλακίστηκε στις 2 Ιουλίου 2018.

Γεννήθηκε στις 31 Ιουλίου του 1939 στην Αθήνα, αλλά μεγάλωσε στη Θεσσαλονίκη, όπου μεταφέρθηκε η οικογένειά του το 1940. Η καταγωγή του πατέρα του είναι από την Κωνσταντινούπολη και της μητέρας του από τα Ιωάννινα. Κατά τη διάρκεια της εφηβείας του υπήρξε καλαθοσφαιριστής, αγωνιζόμενος για δύο χρόνια (1953 και 1954) στον ΠΑΟΚ στη θέση «3» (Σμολ φόργουορντ).

Σπούδασε στο Πολυτεχνείο του Μονάχου Πολιτικός Μηχανικός (1964) και Μηχανικός Οικονομίας και Διοίκησης (1967). Εργάστηκε σε κατασκευές δημοσίων έργων σε Γερμανία, Αυστρία, Ελβετία και Ιταλία. Η βάση του ήταν στη Γερμανία, όπου έζησε συνολικά 16 χρόνια, από το 1959 έως το 1975, οπότε και επέστρεψε οριστικά στην Ελλάδα.

Το 1968 του απαγορεύτηκε η είσοδος στη χώρα, καθώς η Χούντα τού είχε αφαιρέσει την ελληνική ιθαγένεια, λόγω της αντιστασιακής του δραστηριότητας. Το 1964 παντρεύτηκε τη Γερμανίδα Γκούντρουν Μολντενχάουερ, με την οποία απέκτησε μία κόρη κι έναν γιο. Το 2004 παντρεύτηκε τη Βίκυ Σταμάτη, με την οποία απέκτησε έναν γιο.

Πολιτική σταδιοδρομία

Το 1968 γνώρισε στη Φρανκφούρτη τον Ανδρέα Παπανδρέου και το 1970 έγινε μέλος του αντιδικτατορικού Πανελλήνιου Απελευθερωτικού Κινήματος (ΠΑΚ). Υπήρξε από τα ιδρυτικά στελέχη του ΠΑΣΟΚ. Από τότε συμμετείχε για πολλά χρόνια στα εκτελεστικά γραφεία του κόμματος. Την περίοδο 1990-1994 διετέλεσε γραμματέας της Κεντρικής Επιτροπής του ΠΑΣΟΚ, ενώ το 1995 εξελέγη αντιπρόεδρος του Ευρωπαϊκού Σοσιαλιστικού Κόμματος.

Στις εκλογές του 1981 συμπεριλήφθηκε στο ψηφοδέλτιο Επικρατείας του ΠΑΣΟΚ εκλεγόμενος βουλευτής. Από το 1985 έως και τις εκλογές του 2004 εκλεγόταν συνεχώς βουλευτής στην Α' Θεσσαλονίκης.

Το 1995 ο Άκης Τσοχατζόπουλος διετέλεσε αναπληρωτής πρωθυπουργός και με την ιδιότητα αυτή εκπροσώπησε την Ελλάδα στη σύνοδο κορυφής των κρατών-μελών της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης στη Μαδρίτη.

Μετά την παραίτηση του Ανδρέα Παπανδρέου από το αξίωμα τον Ιανουάριο του 1996, έθεσε υποψηφιότητα για την ανάδειξη του νέου πρωθυπουργού που θα εξέλεγε η κοινοβουλευτική ομάδα του ΠΑΣΟΚ. Ισοψήφησε με τον Κώστα Σημίτη (από 53 ψήφοι), ενώ ακολούθησαν σε ψήφους οι Γεράσιμος Αρσένης και Γιάννης Χαραλαμπόπουλος. Στην επαναληπτική ψηφοφορία έλαβε 75 ψήφους, έναντι 86 του Κώστα Σημίτη. Τον Ιούνιο του ίδιου χρόνου και μετά τον θάνατο του Ανδρέα Παπανδρέου, διεκδίκησε στο συνέδριο του ΠΑΣΟΚ το χρίσμα του προέδρου του κόμματος, απέτυχε όμως να εκλεγεί με αντίπαλο τον Κώστα Σημίτη.

Συμμετείχε σχεδόν σε όλα τα υπουργικά συμβούλια των κυβερνήσεων του ΠΑΣΟΚ, από τον πρώτο σχηματισμό της κυβέρνησης Ανδρέα Παπανδρέου το 1981 μέχρι το τέλος της κυβέρνησης Σημίτη το 2004, ενώ διετέλεσε υπουργός και στην οικουμενική κυβέρνηση του Ξενοφώντα Ζολώτα.

Διετέλεσε βουλευτής από το 1974 έως το 2007. Στις εκλογές όμως του 2007 απέτυχε να εκλεγεί καθώς κατατάχθηκε στην 7η θέση ανάμεσα στους συνυποψηφίους του, ενώ στις εκλογές του 2009 δεν κατέβηκε υποψήφιος. Στις 11 Απριλίου 2011, ο πρώην υπουργός διαγράφηκε οριστικά από το ΠΑΣΟΚ. Η ψήφιση στο Κοινοβούλιο από την Κοινοβουλευτική Ομάδα του κόμματος της σύστασης προκαταρκτικής επιτροπής από τη Βουλή των Ελλήνων έφερε τον πρώην υπουργό σε σύγκρουση με τους βουλευτές του κόμματός του, ενώ ανέφερε ότι αποτελεί κίνηση υποχωρητικότητας έπειτα από την πίεση της αντιπολίτευσης.

Government, Opposition Clash over Bill to Curb Demonstrations in Greece

As the vote for the bill to regulate demonstrations is about to go up for a vote in the Greek Parliament Thursday, there continue to be fierce reactions from the opposition, unions and other sectors of society.
