271 new cases of Covid-19 in the country, and 5 new deaths, announced Greek health officials on Friday. These numbers follow the trend of elevated Covid cases in Greece.
Cases are up from Thursday’s 259. 6 deaths were registered on Thursday.
Of Friday’s 271 cases, only 26 were discovered at Greece’s borders after testing visitors.
Emergency measures to stop the spread of the virus will be put in place on Saturday morning on the islands of Zakynthos and Lesvos, and in Imathia, a region near Thessaloniki.
This is in response to an increased number of cases in these areas.
The measures in Zakynthos and Lesvos include banning crowded events such as parties and outdoor markets, the mandatory use of masks in outdoor and indoor spaces, and limits on the number of patrons in restaurants, bars, and cafes. These establishments will also be closed from midnight until 7 a.m.
In Imathia, the maximum amount of people who can congregate in a space is 50, and bars and restaurants must remain closed from midnight to 7 a.m.
