Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, issued a series of grave allegations recently against the outgoing US administration concerning their attitude towards Greece and Cyprus.
The powerful woman of Russia’s Diplomacy accused US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of putting pressure on both Greece and Cyprus to adopt anti-Russian stances on a series of issues.
”We are aware of the pressure of US representatives toward the hierarchy of the Greek and Cypriot Orthodox Churches for them to recognize the Ukrainian Schismatic Church,” Zakharova was quoted as saying by the Sputnik Greece website.
In a sarcastic tone, Zakharova noted that the Americans showed “a strange interest” on the issue of Greece and Cyprus’s stance towards Ukraine since ”the Orthodox make up only about 2% of the country’s population.”
“We have repeatedly stressed that blackmail has no place in the civilized world and in international politics.”
There is still no official reaction either from the Greek or the Cypriot Foreign Ministries on these remarks.
