The Greek Health Ministry on Thursday confirmed that a total of fifteen health care providers at Athens’ Aghios Savvas General Cancer/Oncology Hospital have tested positive for the coronavirus and are self-isolating.
After three physicians from the second pathology oncological clinic of Agios Savvos were found to be infected with the coronavirus, a thorough disinfection of all the premises has been carried out and extensive contact tracing among staff, doctors and patients initiated, Health Ministry sources assured the public on Thursday.
The same sources stated that a total of 15 cases of the coronavirus were diagnosed among the staff while four patients have also tested positive.
The tracing will also be undertaken in the Orthopaedic Clinic of the hospital, according to the officials.
The fifteen individuals with confirmed cases among the staff, who are suffering either mild or no symptoms, will stay at home, while another 25 staff members are also self-isolating as a precautionary measure.
Four patients were sent to the Amalia Fleming COVID referral hospital, while the Second Pathology Oncological Clinic has ceased admissions of new patients for one week, with patients now being transferred to the First Clinic.
All the patients at Aghios Savvas General Cancer/Oncology Hospital are continuing their chemotherapy as normal and rapid tests were carried out on each one of the hospital’s 1,200 staff members on Thursday morning.
