Another grim record broke on Saturday in Greece, as the country recorded its highest death toll in a period of 24 hours since the beginning of the pandemic.
A total of 121 people died in the past 24 hours, with 606 patients with COVID-19 now being intubated across the country, according to the latest official data published by health authorities.
Greece also recorded 1,747 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours.
The total death toll from the pandemic has now reached the shocking figure of 2,223 people.
These figures show how deadly the second wave of the pandemic has been in Greece, in stark contrast with the country’s better position during the first one in March and April.
The situation remains critical in Thessaloniki and the broader area of the country’s north, where all hospitals are edging towards full capacity in their ICU beds.
