In response to needs which came to light during the coronavirus pandemic, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation has recently made a donation of 15 million euros to the public health system in Greece.
The contracts for the building of 174 new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facilities were signed on Tuesday in the presence of Greek Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias. The new buildings will also be used for High-Dependency Unit (HDU) beds in fifteen public hospitals around the country.
The extremely generous donation was made as part of the Foundation’s framework for its 100-million-dollar “Global Relief Initiative For The Covid-19 Pandemic,” a worldwide charitable project which aims to help address the many and varied impacts of the pandemic.
The contracts were also signed by the governors of the fifteen public hospitals, most of which are located in Athens.
