Covid-19: 1,424 New Cases, 325 Intubated, 23 Deaths in Greece

A total of 1,424 new cases of Covid-19 in Greece were announced on Saturday, while 325 patients are intubated, and 23 people lost their lives.

Two of the cases were detected in the country’s gateways, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) announced.

Nearly half of the country’s cases, 680, were diagnosed in the Attica prefecture, the most densely populated area in Greece.

Transmission of the virus is exceptionally high in the center of Athens, where 383 cases were identified.

Of the rest of the cases, 155 were diagnosed in Thessaloniki, 65 in Achaia, 43 in Evia, 35 in Larissa, and 28 in Corinth.

According to EODY, from January 1, 2020, a total of 3,488,888 clinical samples have been tested in the laboratories until today.

Also, 1,430,491 samples have been tested by Health Units and EODY units that perform rapid tests.

Currently, there are 325 patients in intubation is 325. Their median age is 70 years, while 87.7 percent have an underlying disease and/or age 70 years and older.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,270 patients have been discharged from ICU.

The new admissions of Covid-19 patients in Greece’s hospitals are 247 (daily change -10.83 percent). The average admission number for the past seven days is 222 patients.

The median age of cases is 44 years (range 0.2 to 105 years), while the median age of fatalities is 79 years (range 15 to 103 years).

Today, 23 new deaths were recorded, while since the beginning of the epidemic, a total of 6,272 Greek residents have passed.

Of the total of 95.7 percent had an underlying disease and/or are age 70 years and older.

Greece issues vaccination certificates.

Greece has started issuing a digital vaccination certificate for citizens who have received both doses of the coronavirus shot.

The certificates feature the vaccinated person’s data, including which vaccine they received against and when they completed both doses, along with a unique QR code.

Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Minister of State and Digital Governance has decided to bring Greece into the digital age.

Speaking to AMNA, Pierrakakis stressed that Greece’s vaccination certificate is highly protected from fraud; it cannot be forged and has a digital stamp.”

Those who have been fully inoculated can acquire the vaccine certification, which comes in virtual or printed form, the day after they receive their second dose.

Applicants can fill out their information on a digital platform, including their AMKA number and their codes for the government platform TaxisNet, to receive the certificate.

An estimated 15,000 certifications have already been sent out to inoculated Greeks as of Friday.

The virtual record of one’s vaccination status is not mandatory, but it may be used for traveling or foregoing coronavirus restrictions in the future.
