Milos is a volcanic island, and is the south-westernmost island in the Cyclades group.

Because of its volcanic origin, Milos possesses a captivating colorful landscape with soft sandy beaches, underwater sea caves and reddish cliffs, and has more than 75 exotic beaches.

Standing out for its sublime aura, picturesque fishing villages, rich history, and mouth-watering food, Milos is an unfailing Cycladic treasure that will steal your heart with its dazzling beauty.

The diverse landscapes in Milos are surreal; you will always discover something new.

Being home to the Venus of Milos statue, which was found on the island, but is currently on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris, and the beautiful white rock formations of Kleftiko and Sarakiniko beach, rich-colored Klima village, and Plaka’s sunset, Milos’ beauty is unique and showcased in many ways.

Tsigrado is a beach so secluded you will feel like you own it. White sand, surreal waters, cliffs and caves, making it a great place to snorkel. The only way to make it down to the beach is to climb down a rope.

While this might make some hesitate, always keep in mind that the destination is so worth it, that it’s not to be missed. It also adds to its uniqueness.

The blissful landscape of Papafragas is a very impressive site to witness. It has deep dark sea caves surrounding the place, and crystal waters that change color depending on the light and weather.

From the top of the rock, it looks like a huge natural swimming pool, an enormous cave carved out of the cliff’s side.

Fun activities in Milos

One of the most fun things to do on the island is to take a boat trip that takes you around the island and to many beaches that are not accessible any other way.

The tours make stops at the mesmerizing beaches for everyone to take a swim and enjoy their time. They also include food, drinks, and stories told about pirates that had their hideouts in Milos. Traces of their existence can be found in Kleftiko and Sarakiniko.

The boat tours take almost a whole day and it is one of the things that are mostly worth doing on the island as you get to see the best scenery the island can provide while also learning about its history.

You can also spice up your holidays with a sea kayak day trip! These guided day trips are one of the most fun activities to experience on the island.

Today, it offers visitors a view of exceptional beauty in the bay of the island and a breathtaking sunset, which will reward the effort that it took to climb to the top.

Also, going up to Castro will give you the opportunity to visit the church of Panagia Thalassitra and the church of Virgin Mary or Virgin Skiniotissa.

The Catacombs of Milos, are among the three most important of the 74 discovered worldwide, together with the catacombs of the Holy Land and Rome, and date back from the 1st to the 5th century. There is a possibility that the Catacombs of Milos are older than the ones of Rome.

Milos is traditionally an island for couples

Tips for couples: watch the warm golden light of the sun take over Khora village as you stroll around the castle area at dusk.

The benches on the courtyard of church Panagia Korfiatissa and Panagia Thalassitra, as well as the Castle’s top, are all ideal locations to set back and enjoy the lovely view that will certainly cast a spell on you.

Another great tip is taking some dives on secluded beaches and exploring the caves. Take  a boat trip and explore beaches that you have never thought of visiting.

While Milos welcomes everyone, it is mostly popular as an island for couples where they can find the ideal environment for their romantic holidays in the peaceful natural landscape.

The emerald beaches, catacombs, and caves eroded by the sea, filled with pirate stories, captivate any holidaymaker.

Credit: Gary Bembridge /Wikimedia Commons/ CC-BY-2.0 The Palace of Knossos, located about five kilometers (three miles) south of Heraklion on Kephala hill, was the largest of all the Minoan palaces in Crete. It was also at the core of the highly sophisticated civilization that flourished on the island over 3,500 years ago. The discovery of the Minoan Palace of Knossos The discovery and subsequent excavation of the palace dates back to the beginning of the twentieth century. Before then, Knossos had only served as a place mentioned in Greek mythology. The first modern scholar to take a serious interest in the area was the German Heinrich Schliemann, who in 1870 had excavated the site believed to be Troy. Schliemann was certain that a major Minoan palace lay hidden near Heraklion, but the Ottoman authorities who still ruled the island at the time denied any permission to dig there. Years afterward, the British archaeologist Arthur Evans, inspired b

Water Shortages On Islands Plaguing Greece This Summer

Tap water is a precious commodity on the Greek islands and one that is in short supply. Credit: Ishwah Murth Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 Island water shortages and stoppages are plaguing Greece this summer. Promoted for its beautiful seawater surrounding all the Greek isles and its entire coastline, many islands are suffering from a lack of quantity — and quality of tap water. Turning on the tap and finding an abundant flow of water has become a basic expectation in civilized society of the 21st century, particularly when you are on a vacation that is meant to offer a bit of away-from-home luxury. However, on some Greek islands, access to whiskey is easier to come by than water. Greek island water shortages and water stoppages are common nowadays. Carol Berkley, from London, who is vacationing at an AirBnB property in the area of Marathi on Mykonos told Greek Reporter, “We had just come back from the beach. There are four of us here on the property. “Natural

Greek, Armenian Genocide Recognized by the Netherlands

Greek civilians from Pontus flee their homes during the genocide. Public domain Greek, Armenian and Syriac genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire in the beginning of the 20th century were recognized by the Netherlands earlier in the week. The move follows the overwhelming adoption by the Dutch parliament of a resolution noting that the government “still does not recognize the Armenian genocide of 1915 [perpetrated] by the Ottoman Empire (in which also the Arameans, Assyrians, and the Pontic Greeks were victims).” The resolution stated that “there is more urgency than ever for countries to clearly speak out about the past in order to advance reconciliation and prevent repetition in the future.” The genocide of 1915 was committed by the Ottoman Turks and Kurds against the Syriac people and occurred parallel to the genocides of Armenians and Greeks, which was not only reduced to the region of Pontus, but all Greeks in the Ottoman Empire. The resolution said that 1.5 milli

Speaking English Using Greek: Zolotas’ Historic Speech to World Bankers

Zolotas was director of the Bank of Greece when he famously spoke at a conference in English using Greek words. Public domain Many Greeks recall the speeches in English — peppered with Greek-origin words and phrases — given by economist and politician Xenophon Zolotas in the late 1950s. Zolotas was director of the Bank of Greece when he appeared in front of an audience at an International Bank for Reconstruction and Development conference in 1959. He delivered two speeches in English using Greek words to emphasize the wealth of the Greek language and the fact that countless Greek words enrich English. Greek remains a language which greatly enriches international scientific discourse; more than any other, it is the language which developed, shaped and expressed the beginning of most scientific theories, philosophical thoughts, and literature in most of the modern-day languages of the Western world.
