Greece Announces 63 Deaths, 2,812 New Coronavirus Cases

The EODY, Greece’s Public Health Organization, announced on Monday that a total of 63 new coronavirus deaths had been recorded in the country in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll of the pandemic to 11,415.

Monday’s death toll marked an increase of six people over those who had succumbed with the virus one day prior; Tuesday’s figure showed another increase of seven individuals.

Since the beginning of the epidemic a total of 11,534 deaths have been recorded in Greece; 95.2% of the victims suffered from an underlying disease and / or were age 70 years or older.

Additionally, the EODY announced that 2,812 individuals had been diagnosed with the coronavirus over the past 24 hours, representing an increase of 1,410 over the previous day, when 1,402 new coronavirus infections had been reported.

This represents an increase of 624 people over the 2,188 people who had been diagnosed last Friday, showing that the number of coronavirus victims stubbornly refuses to decrease for more than a few days at a time. Greece has confirmed a total of 381,266 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, showing a daily change of + 0.7%, of which 51.2% have been male.

The number of patients currently being treated by the invasive treatment of intubation is 639; 62.8% of these individuals are male. Their median age is 67 years. The vast majority of these, or 82.8%, suffer from an underlying disease and / or are age 70 years and older.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 2,298 patients have been discharged from ICUs across Greece.

Two of Tuesday’s new cases were identified after checks at the country’s gates.

Based on the confirmed cases of the last seven days, 34 of the new infections are considered to be related to travel from abroad and 2,210 are related to an already-known case.

There were 34 new hospital admissions in those suffering with the coronavirus over the past day, showing a disturbing daily change of 5.03%. The average number of admissions over the past week is 319.

The median age of all those diagnosed with the virus is now 44 years, with the oldest person dying with the disease having attained the age of 106 years. The median age of death in all those in Greece who have succumbed with the virus is 78 years.
